Embody the spirit of a historical and incredibly lively Parisian neighbourhood and design a space\u00a0capable of telling Pigalle\u2019s story, as a sort of neighbourhood collective. That was the double\u00a0challenge set for Charlotte de Tonnac and Hugo Sauzay, architects from the Festen interior design\u00a0agency. Since graduating from the Ecole Camondo in\u00a02011 – and regardless of the project they\u2019ve\u00a0been working on – this super creative duo have made\u00a0it their mission to \u201ctransform the classic space<\/div>\n
through a respect for original structures, purity,\u00a0and a selection of contemporary furniture.\u201d They\u00a0benefited the hotel with their expertise, adding typical Parisian touches, such as panelled doors and\u00a0white walls, moulding, woodwork and parquet flooring. \u201cIf you really look close at Pigalle, we\u2019re\u00a0actually in La Nouvelle Athenes, where the architecture is less uniform than elsewhere, and we\u2019ve\u00a0taken the essence of that with details such as curved bay windows, and the cheap, veined marble<\/div>\n
that was really popular in this faubourg, where people wanted to imitate the richer districts, so\u00a0we\u2019ve used that for the basins. The terrazzo flooring on the ground floor is like the ones you find in\u00a0the local bars and the leopard and oxblood carpets<\/div>\n
of the brothels is expressed here through tiny\u00a0touches in the lift and lower-ground toilets,\u201d explains Hugo. Another final example of their minutely\u00a0researched work is the scraped plaster dados on the\u00a0ground floor, a nod to the old mines of<\/div>\n
